No Witches, a Glam Squad… How JHud & Guests Do Halloween!
October 28, 2022
Jennifer Hudson is gearing up for a fun and festive Halloween!
On “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” JHud shared her plans for the frightening holiday with her live studio audience.
Celebrity guests, such as Terry Crews, Kelly Rowland, Chance the Rapper, and more, discussed their take on the ghoulish day.
See how the stars like to celebrate Halloween!
Terry Crews Loves Haunted Houses
Terry Crews was Jennifer’s special guest on her talk show’s Halloween show in October 2022. The star showed up dressed as his childhood hero Mr. T.
Terry loves celebrating Halloween, something he wasn’t able to do growing up.
“My mother was very religious,” he told JHud. “Everything I do now I was not allowed to do as a kid.
“We go to church and they call it Hallelujah Night,” he said of how he spent every October 31 as a child. (Same for JHud!) “The costume I was allowed to wear was Moses.”
“I was Moses four years straight!” he recalled. “Can we do something else?”
Now that he can make his own decisions, Terry loves to go to Halloween Horror Nights and tour haunted houses every year. His one rule for costumed theme park scarers: “Just don’t touch me!”
Even if they keep their hands off him, another problem usually arises: “Once they find out it’s me — they start auditioning!” he said.

Tiffani Thiessen told Jennifer that she wasn’t big into Halloween until she had kids. She and her family used to do group costumes, but now that her kids are older, they want to do their own thing on Halloween night.
“The moment he was done with Halloween last year, he already knew what he was gonna be next year,” Tiffani said of her son, who dressed up as Marky Mark last year (“That was his idea!” she said) and plans to be James Bond next year.
Tiffani’s entire family gets into the spooky spirit — including her animals! “My chickens love pumpkins,” she said. “I start the carving of the pumpkin and then I let the chickens go at it.”

Design siblings Jonathan and Drew Scott — aka the Property Brothers — told Jennifer that they’ve always been really into Halloween.
“We were obsessed as kids making all the décor we put around the house,” said Jonathan. Makes sense!
According to the bros, their mother would make any costume they could dream of, including a robot who could shoot its arms out! “That made us get so excited for Halloween,” said Drew.
The brothers say they still enjoy dressing up as grown-ups and shared a photo of them dressed as classic and modern Wonder Woman from a previous Halloween.
“Gal Gadot’s got nothing on my legs as Wonder Woman!” declared Drew.

View StoryNo Witches for JHud
Last year, JHud relied on her son, David, to organize plans for a Halloween party and to pick her costume.
Jennifer and David like to do adventurous activities, including Whirlyball, which is a mix of lacrosse, hockey, and basketball using bumper cars.
The family also like to bowl — which JHud said she is good at it even with her long nails — and play laser tag.
JHud and her family aren’t going overboard with decorations at home in case “some kids don’t like scary stuff.”
“Maybe a broom, but no witch,” she explained.
Once Halloween is over, Jennifer will begin decorating her house with candles to mark the start of the holiday season!
Trick or Treat for Chance the Rapper
Chance the Rapper and JHud discussed what it was like to celebrate Halloween in their hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
During an interview with the rapper, Jennifer mentioned how she didn’t celebrate Halloween growing up. Instead, she celebrated "Hallelujah Night," which didn’t involve any trick-or-treating — but she did dress up as a Biblical character at church.
“It means you’re not getting candy. You pray,” Chance added.
Many kids in the area weren’t allowed to go trick-or-treating due to concerns that the candy was poisoned, according to Jennifer.
“There are a lot of scares as a kid,” JHud recalled.
These days, Chance takes his children trick-or-treating… at least until “I get tired," he said.

View StoryNo Decorations for Kelly Rowland
Turns out, Kelly Rowland may have ruined Halloween for her sons, 7-year-old Titan and 1-year-old Noah!
While talking to JHud about her movie “The Curse of Bridge Hallow,” the former Destiny’s Child group member said the film has huge decorations that come to life.
“[There’s a] big ol’ spider on the top of a house,” she said.
Because of this, Kelly and her family aren’t doing Halloween decorations because the film “freaked [her children] out enough.”
However, like Jennifer, Kelly will start decorating for the holidays after Halloween.
“But Christmas, I’m going all out,” Kelly noted. “The longer Christmas, the better.”

Jenna Dewan told JHud that her nine-year-old — whom she likes to call “my diva” — will go to four different events and will undergo four costume changes. Jenna acts as her daughter's glam squad for the season!
“She has a school party, [one at a] friend’s, [and will go] trick-or-treating,” the star of “The Rookie” said about her daughter’s various activities.
Of course, Everly can’t dress up as “something regular.” Jenna said her daughter insisted on wearing custom-made outfits that require “something random that I have to look on Etsy [for].”
Fortunately, the parties are on different days, so the mother-daughter duo will have time for the costume changes.
Either way, Jenna is in charge of doing Everly’s hair and makeup.
“I’m hired!” she hilariously said in response.
Eddie Redmayne’s Likely to See Wizards
Eddie Redmayne — who is from London, England — said Halloween is “different” in the U.K.
“It’s an excuse for children to get dressed as a wizard or a witch,” the “Fantastic Beasts” star added. “In the States, you get dressed up for anything.”
However, the actor said the ghoulish holiday is “slowly coming to the U.K. more strongly.”
“The Jennifer Hudson Show” airs weekdays. Check your local listings.
