Jennifer Hudson is going back to her church girl roots!
On Thursday’s episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” JHud looked sophisticated in a purple and white Alice + Olivia silk blouse, a pink Hervé Léger skirt, and Jimmy Choo heels.
When Jennifer found out that gospel singer Tasha Cobbs Leonard was going to be on the show, she knew that the two musicians were going to “take it to church,” according to stylist Verneccia “V” Étienne.
V added that it was only right to dress Jennifer in a beautiful silk blouse and skirt that hits below the knees to play off her church girl roots.
Back in September, JHud — who got her start singing at age 7 by performing with her church’s choir in Chicago — also channeled a “church girl vibe” when she wore a lavender Ganni button-down shirt, beige Fendi print pencil skirt, and silver metallic Bottega Veneta heels while interviewing “Abbott Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph.
During the interview, Tasha revealed how she got her start in gospel.

View Story“I came from a family of singers. Everybody on my mom’s side sings. We were made to sing,” Tasha said. “We called ourselves ‘The Jacksons in Georgia.’”
Surprisingly, Tasha said she was “not the chosen vocalist,” as she has cousins who are also amazing singers.
While performing with a community choir that she started with her family, 15-year-old Tasha got to sing Kirk Franklin’s “Now Behold the Lamb” after the male singer who was supposed to lead got into a minor car accident.
“Everybody was looking at me [and said,] ‘Tasha, you got to sing,’” she recalled.
Though Tasha had never sung in front of people before, she got up and performed the entire song with her eyes closed.
“People were crying, they were in worship,” she said after she opened her eyes. “[My parents and I] looked at each other [and we knew,] ‘This is something special.’”
