JHud Surprises Ohio Family That Delivers Food to Hungry Children in an Ice Cream Truck
October 07, 2022
Jennifer Hudson is shining a spotlight on an Ohio family that delivers free meals to children in an ice cream truck.
On Friday’s episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” JHud chatted with the Watson family — consisting of married couple Jason and Anne Watson and their three kids: Lily, Pax, and Skye.
Back in 2016, Jason, an elementary school P.E. teacher in Frazeysburg, noticed that students at his school were coming in early to eat breakfast. Not only were these children dependent on school meals, but they would also go hungry at home.
“The more I would hear, the more it would break my heart,” he said.
One night, while Anne was praying, she said God told her that she had to do something for these deserving children. That year, the Watson family started a community food pantry and have been doing it ever since.
Jason told Jennifer that the family ended up riding around in the unconventional mode of transportation when they wanted to find a special way to help their community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They asked the Columbus-based owner of an ice cream truck if they could borrow the vehicle for a couple of hours, and by the end of the trip, the owner believed in their mission so much that he offered up his second truck for sale.
In addition to helping children in need, the Watsons are thrilled they have found an activity that bonds their entire family.
“It’s amazing. It’s our favorite thing,” they said.
