Marlon Wayans Praises Jennifer for Singing at His Mom’s Funeral
October 26, 2022
Jennifer Hudson is forever grateful for Marlon Wayans.
The comedian helped her get “The Jennifer Hudson Show” after appearing in the pilot!
But Marlon is just as grateful for his friend Jennifer, and on Wednesday’s episode, he thanked JHud for singing at his mother Elvira’s funeral. Sadly, Elvira passed away in 2020 at the age of 81.
“You sang at my mama’s funeral, for nothing,” he said to Jennifer. “She came and showed up,” Marlon — who portrayed her husband in the 2021 Aretha Franklinbiopic “Respect” — said.

“My mama couldn’t believe it,” he joked before imitating, “‘Now I could meet my maker!’”
Marlon recalled the table read for “Respect” as he made fun of how much Jennifer hates the cold and loves a cozy room.
“Haitians be like, ‘I can’t be here,’” Marlon said, adding that JHud likes warm temperatures for her voice, aka “[her] instrument.”
The comedian didn’t stop there; the friends joked about how while Marlon likes to highlight his script in a neat and orderly manner, Jennifer drew over her script “like a kid.”
“Color in the lines!” he teased.
