Relationships November 05, 2022
Jennifer Hudson is a proud animal lover!
On “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” JHud loves to talk about her pets, including cats Grizabella and Macavity as well as her dogs Dreamgirl and MVP.
But did you know that she also had dogs named Oscar and Grammy who sadly passed away?
Here is the ultimate guide to Jennifer’s prized pets!
Oscar
Jenn manifested her Oscar when she got a dog and named it “Oscar”!
Around Christmas time before the 2007 Academy Awards, Jenn got an adorable male Pomeranian and named it after the coveted award.
Months later, she ended up winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing Effie White in the 2006 musical drama “Dreamgirls”!

After winning the Oscar with Oscar’s help, Jenn realized that he needed a girlfriend and got a female Pomeranian who she named “Grammy.”
“Right after that, I got a Grammy!” Jenn told her live studio audience during an episode.
In 2009, JHud received the highest prize in music, honoring her self-titled R&B album.
Dreamgirl
Jenn said Oscar and Grammy had a total of four babies, including one girl in the bunch.
After Jenn decided to keep her, she appropriately named her “Dreamgirl”!
Sadly, Dreamgirl’s parents have since passed away.
In July 2020, Jennifer laid Grammy to rest in a pink coffin, as her son David held Dreamgirl during the poignant ceremony.

MVP
When Oscar and Grammy passed, Jenn decided to get another dog for David.
“His name is MVP,” Jenn told her audience. “I call it my grand dog, ‘cause that’s [David’s] dog.”

Grizabella
In addition to Dreamgirl and MVP, Jenn currently has a total of four pets, including a cat named Grizabella, named after her character in the 2019 film “Cats.”
Jenn told her audience that any time she’s in a film, she has a “keepsake” and decided to get a cat “that represents my character.”
Macavity
In addition to Grizabella, Jenn also got a Sphynx cat named Macavity, named after the villain in “Cats.”
Noting that Macavity is “a little different” and is “strange looking” because he doesn’t have hair, Jenn told her audience that he is “the sweetest.”
“As my mama used to say, he’s so ugly he’s cute!” Jenn said.
However, Jenn said Macavity often acts like “a dog” because he is very observant. Additionally, Jenn gave him the nickname of “House Manager” as “he’s in everyone’s business”!
While Jenn’s “Respect” co-star Marlon Wayans said he likes Jenn’s cats, he has one big gripe about them.
“Their poo is…” Marlon told Jennifer during their interview. “She loves y’all because I would be like, ‘Y’all are gonna be outside today.’ Only one person can smell like that in this house and that’s me.”
Smelly or not, Jenn loves to hang around her house, get mushed up with a comfy blanket, and enjoy the company of her awesome animals.
