Jennifer Hudson and her live studio audience are sharing their Halloween traditions ahead of the spooky holiday.
On Thursday’s episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” JHud took a walk down memory lane and revealed that she took part in “Hallelujah Night” — in which she and her family went to church in Chicago dressed as biblical characters.
“We did not get to trick-or-treat with everyone else because my mom used to say, ‘You don’t know what people put in that candy,’” Jenn recalled.
Jenn also pointed out the cold weather in the Midwest didn’t help.
“You are risking your life to get whatever candy you can!” she said.

“Not all kids are comfortable with the scary characters,” she explained. “Like my son said, ‘Mama, don’t put up the witch that screams at us.’”
Because she didn’t get to do Halloween “like y’all did,” Jenn asked her audience how they celebrated the frightening day.

Michelle — who is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin — related to JHud’s point about the Midwest being cold and said that she and her family were forced to wear jackets over their costumes.
However, one year, Michelle’s mom made sure that she and her sister were warm by buying furry fabric. She then turned that into a cat costume for Michelle and a lamb costume for Michelle’s sister.
This way, the family was snug and cozy amid the harsh weather conditions.
Linda from Walnut, California, said her family has a tradition of having a Halloween dinner that included “rat meatloaf.”
“[We] probably carried it a little too far!” Linda admitted, adding, “We told our children we caught these rats in the garage.”
Linda’s “traumatized” daughter was also in the audience and confirmed that the dish was “gross.”
