Neil told Jenn that he can currently play 117 instruments from around the world.
Many of these instruments are stringed, including the sitar from India, the guzheng from China, and the gadulka from Bulgaria.
“That is something,” Jenn said in amazement. “Oh my God.”
His Talent Started with Toys ‘R’ Us
When Jenn asked how he became musical, Neil told a story of how his father started reading a random book at a library.
“He read one line, which caught his attention. It mentioned, ‘If you give Mozart music to the room, then a child will become a musician,’” he recalled.
At the age of 2, Neil’s parents bought him a drum set from Toys ‘R’ Us and simply told him to play.
Though he said he was uninterested at the time, he later picked it up and went to drum school in Sacramento.

In addition to playing instruments from different countries, Neil told Jennifer that he can also read music in different languages, including Russian, Indian, Chinese, and Arabic.
He also said he trains for his craft by hearing and reading music.
He Thinks There’s Still Room for Improvement
When Jenn asked Neil how much time he spends with each instrument, he said it depends.
However, if he’s gearing up for a performance, he focuses on those instruments for the show. If he doesn’t have a show, he works on the instruments that he’s weakest on in order to get better.
His Most-Played Instrument Is from India
Noting that he gets asked this question all the time, Neil told JHud that all the instruments he plays are his favorites.
However, he did say that the one he plays the most is the sitar from India.

He Can Create a Song on the Spot!
After his interview, Neil showed off his insane skills and created a song using instruments including the musical saw from France, the hang drum from Italy, and the darbuka from Egypt.
“You better play!” Jennifer said.
Neil also gave Jenn a lesson in which she created and recorded her own tune. She got particularly animated when she played the theremin, an electronic musical instrument that produces sound when it senses the performer’s hands.
“Y’all like my track? I tried! I thought I knew music!” Jenn said after her performance.
“No, you did it!” Neil assured her.
