‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Kevin McKidd on Raising 4 Kids and Being Superstitious

Kevin McKidd loves being a dad to two adult children and two infants!

On Tuesday’s episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” gushed about his “two kids in college, and two kids in diapers.”

“I have a 22-year-old, a 20-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 3-year-old,” the proud father told Jennifer Hudson.

When asked what it’s like to raise young ones for the second time, the Scottish actor said he is glad he doesn’t have the same concerns about finances.

“The first time I was more worried about paying the gas bill, making ends meet. Definitely I’m enjoying it a lot more,” he said.

“I think you realize when you’re older that those young years when they’re really wee, they go so fast,” he continued. “Those years go so fast, so I really appreciate it this time.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Kevin spoke to Jennifer about how watching “E.T.” at the age of eight inspired him to pursue acting.

“As a little boy, I just found [‘E.T.’] so emotional and I remember [walking] home with my dad, held my dad’s hand, and I didn’t want to cry in front of my dad,” he recalled.

“When I got home, my dad went to the pub, as Scotsmen do, and as soon as the door closed, my mom was like, ‘Did you like the film?’ and I burst into tears. ‘It was so sad. E.T. went home.’”

Though he didn’t understand what acting or film was at the time, Kevin said to himself, “I want to do that,” and subsequently got his start doing school plays.

Kevin has been on the hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” — also starring Chandra Wilson — for 14 years but told Jennifer he still hasn’t decorated his trailer because he’s very superstitious.

“Some of the actors on the show, they’ve decorated, they’ve feng shui-ed their trailers. I have this superstitious thing [that] if I get too comfortable, if I suddenly move all this stuff in, I’m going to get fired,” he explained.

Instead, Kevin said he keeps it minimal and just has one throw pillow and a sleeping bag.
