He Started as a Dishwasher… Now He’s Saving Lives as a Registered Nurse

Charles Cox’s story is one of perseverance, faith, and finding purpose in the most unexpected place.

After leaving a job at McDonald’s and facing homelessness, Charles took a dishwasher job at Good Samaritan Hospital, never imagining it would change his life forever. Working behind the scenes, he discovered a passion for helping others that inspired him to pursue nursing.

From the hospital kitchen to the patient floor, Charles worked his way up. He became a registered nurse in 2024 and is on track to receive his bachelor’s degree in 2026. His compassion and dedication have earned him multiple accolades, including the Daisy Award for nursing excellence.

Inspired by his mom, who started her own nursing journey but had to pause to raise her kids, Charles is now living out both of their dreams.
