College Student Reads Emotional Letter to Her Mom

In a powerful moment on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” RoMiya, a sophomore at Clark Atlanta University and first-generation college student, honors her mom, Akiya, for the incredible sacrifices she’s made to support her dreams. #HBCUAwareFestPartner

Akiya raised three daughters as a young single mother and worked multiple jobs to keep their family afloat, all while making sure her daughters never went without.

RoMiya shares how attending an HBCU has given her a sense of belonging and purpose, and she reads a heartfelt letter thanking her mom for everything she’s done. But the emotional moment doesn’t end there. AWAREFEST heard about their story and surprised RoMiya with tickets to AWAREFEST AND a $15,000 gift to help support her education, celebrating a family whose love, resilience, and dedication truly represent excellence. 💜

“The Jennifer Hudson Show” partnered with Student Freedom Initiative as they kick off HBCU AWAREFEST. It’s the first national benefit concert aimed at bringing the student loan debt conversation to the forefront. #HBCUAwareFestPartner

HBCU AWAREFEST is all about raising funds and awareness to make college more affordable AND help students build long-term financial stability.
